International Student Requirements
Due to COVID-19, SEVP instituted a temporary exemption regarding the online course protocols for the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters. This exemption made it possible for international students on an F-1 Visa to take more online courses than typically allowed while still maintaining their nonimmigrant status. Harrisburg University obtained the necessary approval to deliver courses fully online during the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters that not only kept our international students compliant with F-1 regulations but better ensured their health and safety as students during this difficult time. This includes the Late Summer 2020 semester.
Yesterday, SEVP announced their intention to end these temporary exemptions, and starting in the Fall 2020 semester, international students can no longer take courses fully online. Homeland Security’s announcement may be found here: (www.ice.gov/news/releases/sevp-modifies-temporary-exemptions-nonimmigrant-studentstaking-online-courses-during)
Harrisburg University has carefully reviewed the announcement, and as a result is evaluating the best way to revert to its executive delivery model—which includes a mixture of online and face-to-face instruction—beginning in the Fall 2020 semester starts.
The executive delivery model has worked very well for many years and is fully compliant with all SEVP regulations and makes it possible for students to maintain their F-1 nonimmigrant status. The decision to implement the executive delivery model depends on the final SEVP procedures which will be published shortly in the Federal Register. In the meantime, Harrisburg University is working on specific logistical details regarding course delivery.
Please be assured that Harrisburg University is fully committed to comply with all new SEVP guidelines.
In addition to taking measures to comply with the latest SEVP rulings, Harrisburg University is equally as committed to ensuring your safety and well-being while attending in-person classes on campus. Precautionary measures will be taken to comply with CDC guidelines and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania directives to ensure the safety of students and faculty amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please watch for additional information and details from Harrisburg University regarding the possible implementation and logistics of the executive delivery model for the Fall 2020 semester so you may plan accordingly.
